The project

In 2003 we founded the project “Opa Opa”. It’s a project that revolves around the world of dance with the aim at promoting and spreading Greek culture. And it is a kind of big “box” full of ideas and people in the flesh who make it more alive and dynamic.
In 2003 we started up the first course of Greek dances at Casa del Quartiere in Rome. From then on we have never looked back and dancing is always on our mind. To plan is a constant of our relationship with dancing: from grown-ups to children, working in schools and associations, spreading the ancient Greek myths and telling plays such as Panigyri, Paradosiakos Gamos and I Taverna where our purpose is to describe symbols and cerimonies through dance and theatre. Now we teach at Cip in Rome. Currently we also organize events to promote Greek culture through dance and cooking seminars, cinema and music concerts.
We also like to involve people we meet along our way: dancers, musicians, actors, researchers, people simply passionate about Greek culture such as our wonderful koumpàra Dioysia, the eccentric Dimitris, the photo-dancer Irene and Dany, the skilful Sofia, the theatrical Giulio, the rebetes Εβή Εβάν, the musical duet Kostas & Nikkolò, the wonderful Fotinì, the collaborator-dancer Anna, Meltemi Trio… And, obviously, pupils from our course who have been following us from the very beginning with great enthusiasm.
Since 2007 Opa Opa has been collaborating with the Greek Embassy in Italy, the Orchestra Evì Evàn, the Greek Taverna Egeo, The Syposion Resaturant, the traditional musicians Meltemi Trio, Sigà Sigà, the traditional Greek dancing school Terpsichori, and many others.
